On March 30, the IRS and Treasury Department announced that the majority of recipients of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Railroad Retirement benefits who did not file a tax return for 2019 or 2020 will receive their $1,400 stimulus payment by electronic deposit on April 7. VA beneficiaries who do not typically file tax returns will probably have their stimulus payments by mid-April.
If you do not receive federal benefits and typically do not file tax returns, you should submit a 2020 return in order to get your stimulus payment. This will also allow you to claim a recovery rebate credit if you did not receive the previous stimulus checks.
