CCSLS is a private, non-profit agency that provides free legal services to seniors 60 years of age and older in civil legal matters such as housing, income maintenance, elder abuse, and consumer protection.  CCSLS seeks to provide the broadest possible access to its services in order to resolve legal problems that adversely affect basic needs associated with advancing age.  We give priority to cases in those areas of law particularly relevant to the needs of the elderly and not otherwise addressed by other legal services programs. We currently serve approximately 1,000 seniors per year with direct legal services, and an additional 600 through our outreach and educational programs.

CCSLS was established in 1979 and incorporated in 1986. It previously was known as Contra Costa Legal Assistance for the Elderly and as the Senior Paralegal Program, but the name was changed in 1994 to Contra Costa Senior Legal Services.  In 2009, we will celebrate thirty years of service to our county’s senior population.

CCSLS is supported by the California State Bar, the Equal Access Fund, the Area Office on Aging, the CCC Community Development Department, the Cities of Antioch, Pittsburg, Richmond and Walnut Creek.  We are also supported by private donations, including a generous grant from the law firm of Bingham McCutchen, LLP.
