CCSLS was established in 1976 and incorporated in 1986. It previously was known as Contra Costa Legal Assistance for the Elderly and as the Senior Paralegal Program, but the name was changed in 1994 to Contra Costa Senior Legal Services.  We have provided services to thousands of our county’s seniors over the last forty years.

Our Priorities

CCSLS seeks to provide the broadest possible access to its services in order to resolve legal problems that adversely affect basic needs associated with advancing age.  We give priority to cases in those areas of law relevant to the needs of the older residents of the County and not otherwise addressed by other legal services programs. We currently serve approximately 1,000 seniors per year with direct legal services, and hundreds more through our outreach and educational programs.

CCSLS is a recipient of IOLTA and Equal Access Funds, and is also supported by the Area Agency on Aging, Contra Costa County Bar Association (recipient of the Bar Fund in 2013) ,  Community Development Block Grants from Contra Costa County, the Cities of Antioch, Pittsburg and Walnut Creek.  We are also supported by foundation grants, including grants from the Dean & Margaret Lesher Foundation, the Rossmoor Fund, the vanLoben Sels/RembeRock Foundation and the Thomas J. Long Foundation.  If you would like to contribute to our efforts to provide free legal services to seniors, please send your tax deductible contribution to our Concord office or click on the "Donate" button below.  Our EIN, for purposes of a charitable deduction, is 94-3021000.

Thanks to the efforts of Alan Plutzik and Jennifer Rosenburg of Bramson, Plutzik, Mahler & Birkhauser, LLP, CCSLS received a Cy Pres award that will allow us to expand and improve our services to Contra Costa seniors.  This is the second Cy Pres CCSLS has received from the Bramson firm for which we are very grateful.  If you or your firm would like to discuss the possibility of designating CCSLS as a recipient of a Cy Pres to further our mission of improving the lives of seniors, please contact Verna Haas, Executive Director, for futher information.
